Not Just A Dress Sense - A Way Of LIfe!
For people who want to listen to music, without background chatter
Welcome to raggedtrouseredfolk. We promoted our first event in February 2011, Robert Tressell Day (see the Tressell page for details - follow the link to get a flavour of the day!). And a month later we promoted DAVID ROVICS (Portland, Oregon) whom we consider to be the most important American folk songwriter since Bob Dylan.
Next up was DEL REY Rey from Seattle, one of the finest steel resonator guitar and ukulele players in the US, and then ROBB JOHNSON, boss of Irregular Records, and one of the finest songwriters in the UK. Since then we have played host several top folk and blues performers including ADAM FRANKLIN (described as a cross between Joe Strummer and Robert Johnson); the truely amazing SCARLET JACKS (who appeared at Cambridge Folk Festival in 2011 and have been rebooked for 2012); and HOUSE OF HATS (who played for us the day after they had played at Ronnie Scott's in London - and what a brilliant performance they gave us). Along the way we've also had really great performances from EMILY BAKER (gigging in support of her album 'House Of Cards'); RON TRUEMAN-BORDER; and UKULELE DAVE.
The line-up for 2012 includes a massive double bill in May featuring RORY ELLIS (Melbourne Australia) and ATTILA THE STOCKBROKER. We also have a return visit in July from DEL REY (whose raggedtrouseredfolk gig in 2011 sold out a fortnight beforehand) and something we are absolutely ecstatic about, in September, from Texas, the legendary STEVE JAMES. We also have PIERRE VINCENT (June) one of the strongest English speaking songwriters working in Europe today. And with return visits for ADAM FRANKLIN and SCARLET JACKS also planned, and gigs by JAIME REGAN, MARK WYNN, and ALUN PARRY (see Tressell page for details about Alun) we are really excited about 2012.
Each gig is totally unique, the audience is limited to just forty people. We recommend people buy tickets in advance, although it is not usually necessary, on most occasions you can pay on the door.
But, please note, the Rory Ellis/Attila gig, the Del Rey gig, and the Steve James gig will be all ticket, with tickets sold at raggedtrouserdfolk gigs from April onwards. What remain unsold will be available on-line on WeGotTickets and in the Jenny Lind three weeks before each gig.
Come along and see us soon - you'll have a great evening. But it's not just about folk music, we have events and street theatre planned, and our ultimate intention is to publish books and release CD's as well, and to create a vehicle for the benefit of musicians, writers and actors.
It's not just a dress sense, it's a way of life......
